eiamthescene is slam-dancing back to reclaim the scene from oxford's sordid, sweaty grasp. iamthescene has been away starting 10,000,000 record labels, also known as "myspaces", which will feature releases from the cream of the crop of unsigned, untalented, uninteresting dipshits this side of Didcot. the fist slew of releases are shaping up like this:
Calfs - "We are the Calfs" CD EP (download only)
Llamas - "We are the Llamas" CD EP (download only)
Gnus - "We are another band named after an animal in a kid's zoo" CD EP (download only)
What's more scene-lovers, become a "friend" of one of iamthescene's record labels and you automatically get a FREE wildly annoying massive banner all over your myspace thanking you for adding us that's about 3 times as big as your page itself and flashes incoherently every second, imprinting MYSPACE into the back of your brain like an electric branding iron.
BUT
apart from the generic myspace bashing, iamthescene does have some REAL news....iamthescene was immensely glad to see Deguello taking part in the most important event of the Scene's calender - the punt. In fact, iamthescene was so pleased, I decided to curate my own scene-fest at the Shouty Box in Abingdon next week, featuring the following acts:
7pm - A looped tape of Joal from the wheatsheaf shouting "let's 'ave one lads" for 45 minutes accompanied by interpretative dance from Suitable Case for Treatment and guest celebrity star Snoop Dogg, who provides a startling rap accompaniment to the 'Treatment's latest record in which he manages, against all the laws of grammar and linguistics, to rhyme "bitches" with "WOOOOOGAAA!!".
7:45pm - small interval, with refreshments provided by those dudes who play glockenspiels on Cornmarket.
8pm - those dudes who play glockenspiels on Cornmarket will perform the complete works of Beethoven, James Brown and Shakespeare for the rest of the night. Members of localbands are invited to join them for a jam after the set.
After the gig, there will be a screening of the ground-breaking new film "Dive Dive", featuring the band of the same name as a German sub screw in World War Two, except instead of the Allies they're fighting the forces of exciting, exhilarating music with depth charges filled with thousands of posters for their next gig at Bar Oz in Oxford. Don't miss out scenesters.
